Leaders in Action Society is a platform of inspiring stories told in the first person through intimate and memorable conversations with some of the great leaders of our time – people whose occupations range from the corporate world to the arts, academia to sports, science to philosophy, politics to planet conservation. Their backgrounds and nationalities might diverge, but every single one of them embodies a true 21st century leader. These stories are made into compelling videos that can reach millions of people around the world, powering conferences in various cities, reflections and debates at schools and universities as well as special learning moments at corporations.
It is an ambitious and beautiful media project, with strong inspiration, education and training traits, designed to unleash the leader that exists inside each of us.
At the core of this project is a deeply-held belief that each and every one of us has a unique gift. If we take this talent, and put it into action we have the potential to propel not only ourselves, but those around us further. We strongly believe that inside all of us, there is a leader waiting to be empowered.
We also believe in the power of storytelling. People inspire people, and a well-told story can have effects that ripple far and wide. We operate in a digital world, where communication is easier than ever, and we want to harness this power to amplify the right ripples. The ripples that can change tomorrow for the better.
Leaders in Action Society is a learning and networking platform where the life stories, knowledge and ideas of some of today’s greatest leaders can be shared, in the hopes of being a catalyst for change.
The journey begins with great conversations with even greater people. We travel extensively around the world to find the curating incredible men and women who we will be featuring – people with a great deal to share their ideas and experiences and to teach and inspire others.
These conversations, conducted by Carlota Ribeiro Ferreira and Tim Vieira, are then edited into 20-minute episodes. Each episode is totally dedicated to a leader’s life, story and purpose. That is why in every episode we dive deep into these leaders’ life lessons, what brought them to where they are now, what were their most challenging experiences and greatest achievements, what were the turning points of their careers and who were the companions along the way. Every episode is both informative and inspirational in the hopes of igniting and empowering the leaders within our viewers.
In addition to the episodes online releases, with translation and subtitles in 4 languages, we also organize guides to think deeper about each leader’s story that will give some ideas and suggestions to teachers and lecturers from around the world to develop stimulating reflections and debates in their classes, inspiring students to embrace a ‘unleash the leader in me’ attitude towards the future and to make the difference at a larger scale.
Leaders in Action Society, is a platform of content and initiatives designed to be learning and contribution experiences to everyone. It’s an ever-evolving project, and its growth is not only dependent on us and the people we feature, but also on you, an audience who wants to learn and be inspired. Our platform and our initiatives are meant to be an open dialogue, where all of us can communicate and collaborate. We want to nurture and develop a culture of Leaders in Action and all of us to strengthen it around the world.
Leaders in Action was launched on Thursday, October 3, 2019, with the airing of the first episode. From then on, new episodes become available online.
These leaderships stories are captured and filmed all around the world and we plan that every 12 weeks there will be a Leaders in Action Series in a new country of a new continent, which means that until the end of 2020, Leaders in Action will be spreading seeds across the 5 continents. In each of the countries, we will interview ten leaders in action, enriching the platform with new leadership stories open to all.

Carlota had twelve years of experience in the world of media before founding WIN World in 2008. She is enthusiastic about strategy and development of new businesses, as well as a believer in the transformative power of media, knowledge and education. She created WIN World with the mission to inspire leaders and organizations for the future by creating state of the art content and events. Carlota understands that people inspire people, and that by facilitating encounters between forward thinking leaders, change and progress can be achieved. As a media business woman, tremendously passionate about knowledge, education and the world, Carlota and her company WIN World work for the creation of inspiring and transformative learning experiences that can touch millions of people across the globe.
Carlota holds a Business Administration degree from Instituto Superior de Gestão, a degree of Special Studies in General Management from Harvard University and an Advanced Management Program with Jack Welch. Today, she belongs to the board of directors of Harvard Club de Portugal. Beyond business, Carlota loves travelling, living outdoors and doing sports, being super addicted to waterski. Carlota is 45 and has two wonderful sons, for sure her best inspirations – Vasco, turning 16, and Sebastião, 6!

Tim was born and raised in Johannesburg (South Africa). With an early penchant for business, his entrepreneurial journey started in the 90s with the foundation of his first company, a brewery, while still at university. He soon became a serial and successful entrepreneur and an expert in media. In 2001, Tim saw Angola as a country with investment opportunities. He owns, together with his partner Nuno Traguedo, Special Edition Holding, one of the most significant media groups in the country, currently employing more than 500 people. Tim also owns media companies in Mozambique and Ghana. In 2015 Tim became well known to the Portuguese audience after having participated as an investor in the first season of the TV show Shark Tank Portugal. Currently, Tim is the CEO of Bravegeneration (Europe), a company particularly committed to supporting innovative and ambitious Portuguese entrepreneurs. He also has important investments in Portugal in the areas of tourism, education, agriculture, distribution, IT and film production. Tim holds a management degree from Chicago Booth School of Business.

Chief Operations Officer
Joana was born and raised in Lisbon. She began her career in events in 2009, having managed and coordinated large scale conferences and corporate meetings, both in Portugal and abroad. She is a highly responsible, enthusiastic and with a can-do positive attitude with a proven ability to work in a multi-tasking environment with numerous and demanding deadlines. As WIN World COO, she leads different teams including Production, Contents, Design, Marketing and Commercial and she is responsible for the day to day running of the projects in development, making sure clients’ expectations are met. She is obsessed with great planning and management, making sure the whole team in always on board, and is highly experienced in budget management. Joana has a degree in Tourism from ISLA and she also attended an executive program in Leading and Energizing Teams for Performance from the Portuguese Catholic University. She is passionate about travelling and spending time with her husband and 2 daughters.

Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Brazil Operations
Born in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Rafael brings the team all the warmth and friendliness that characterize the cariocas. He holds a degree in International Relations from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro – PUC and a Digital Marketing Management Course at the Lisbon Catholic School of Business & Economics. In 2016, Rafael began working in the events area, taking part in large international events such as the 2016 Olympic Games, in Rio de Janeiro, and the European Development Days 2017, in Brussels. He then moved to Lisbon to embrace new professional challenges and started collaborating with Win World as head of the commercial area. Rafael has participated in the organization of major conferences such as the National Geographic Summit and he currently coordinates marketing, corporate sales and sponsorship of several projects such as Happy Conference, The WIN World Conference and The WIN World Playbook. Rafael has a natural talent for communicating with people and understanding their needs.

Chief Content Officer
Born to Portuguese parents, Benedita was raised in Brussels (Belgium). She moved to Portugal when she was 20 and then lived in Florence (Italy) and in London (UK) for a while before going back to Lisbon. She used to be a litigation lawyer in a large law firm but her curiosity led her to another path, one that would enable her to explore her creativity in wider realms. At WIN World, she has been involved in the design, concept, research and content development of large and internationally renowned conferences, such as National Geographic Summit. The School of Life Conference, COTEC Europe Summit and Happy Conference. She holds a law degree from the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University, and an LL.M. Degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is currently completing the one-year Certificate in Happiness Studies, by the Happiness Studies Academy, whose co-founder is Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar, Harvard PhD. Benedita loves studying, writing, thinking and discussing thought-provoking ideas that help solve problems in new ways.

Content and Research Manager
Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Gaia moved to London at 18 to complete her BA in Philosophy. She ended up staying in the British capital for eight years, where she worked as a journalist for Monocle magazine producing content for print and radio as well as live events. Gaia decided to go freelance in 2018, settling in Lisbon where she continues to practice journalism for international platforms. She joined WIN World’s content team, and has been involved in researching and writing for several of the company’s recent projects. Gaia is constantly engaging with those around her and naturally inclined to search for a deeper meaning in things.

Corporate Partnerships Manager
Everyone knows Virginia by her nickname, ‘Biris’. As soon as Biris came to this world, she was predestined to become a globetrotter: with a Peruvian mother and a Spanish father, she was born in the Dominican Republic. She has lived in San Salvador (El Salvador), Lima (Peru) and Lisbon (Portugal), and travelled to many other countries. Biris moved to Portugal during her adolescence because of the difficult political situation of Peru (Sendero Luminoso, or Shining Path). Later, she was living between Lima and Lisbon. In Lisbon, she worked for Diário de Notícias and National Geographic in the advertising and commercial areas. In Lima, she was leading niche market projects at Editorial cosas. In both cities, she has also worked in the event management and production areas. Although she keeps a very strong connection to Peru, going back there for extended periods every once in a while, Biris eventually returned to Lisbon to stay. She says she just couldn’t live without Portugal’s blue sky, her walks in the Alentejo region and Guincho.
ONE PERSONALITY TRAIT: People person.
SOME WORLD CAUSES: Human trafficking, animal abuse.
FASCINATED BY: Inca culture, Peruvian indigenous culture, Portuguese language, Roma people, folklore, flamenco.
Born and raised in Lisbon, Francisca is a real alfacinha, as we say in Portuguese. She soon understood her strong penchant for the creative field and holds a degree in Communication Design from the Fine Arts Faculty of Lisbon. Very curious by nature, Francisca left her cozy city of Lisbon to live six months in the mountains, in Bolzano, Italy, where she integrated a project on Participatory Video and Interactive Design at the Free University of Bolzano. This project called her attention to the importance of design thinking to develop online platforms. This led her to discover her passion for ideas, their power, shape and impact. Through book covers, illustration, scenography… she explores Design as a way of interrelating. Francisca collaborated with studio AH-HA, a design studio based in Lisbon, where she developed disruptive visual narratives. She collaborates with WIN World as Head of Art and Design and has been involved in the concept and design of the visual identity of large internationally renowned conferences, such as National Geographic Summit, COTEC Europe Summit and Happy Conference. Pragmatic while always thinking out of the box, she inspires everyone.
ONE PERSONALITY TRAIT: Resilient.
SOME WORLD CAUSES: Human relations, conflicts, genuine communication among people.
FASCINATED BY: The Nordic cultures.
Born and raised in Coimbra, a Portuguese city that is home to one of the oldest universities in the world, Anaísa is naturally welcoming and open-minded. With a view to immerse in the events field, she eventually left her hometown to study Production and Marketing of Events in Lisbon. She also holds a degree in Artistic Studies – Cinema. For 2 years, Anaísa worked mainly as a production assistant in cinema and performance festivals. Then she joined the operational and production team at WIN World and since then she has been involved in the organization of many conferences and public events. In the meantime, Anaísa decided to embrace an international experience and she worked 2 years in Disneyland Paris, becoming very soon fluent in French. She returned to WIN World with that Disney contagious magical glow in her eyes to embrace the job of happy Office Manager. Above all, Anaísa loves music and theater – she sings in choirs since she was a student. She also loves to exercise, travel and spend time with friends.
